Product Manager

SUMMARY:

The Product Manager will lead the NICOR lighting product line activities in North America and is responsible for product life cycle management, product commercialization, market penetration strategies and competitive leadership. The Product Manager is expected to have unsurpassed knowledge of our products, technical requirements and specifications for targeted market applications/industries, customers, and competitors.  We are looking for someone with entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Determine market needs and trends for various lighting products in North America.  Implement product innovation strategies via voice of the customer (VOC) activities with sales team, distributors, contractors, architects, and end-users.
  2. Conduct detailed competitive analysis to keep NICOR an innovation leader within the industry. Develop and maintain an in depth understanding of the competitive landscape using this understanding to provide competitive intelligence to sales.
  3. Define and maintain product roadmaps and features prioritization for all new and some existing products.
  4. Coordinate and lead all product training activities for internal/external sales teams and customers.
  5. Partner with sourcing department on identifying potential supplier sources for assigned products and provide analysis and recommendations
  6. Ensures that all product management deliverables are complete prior to each tollgate review and meets all deadlines.
  7. Oversee the product lifecycle and provide initial and long-term lifecycle forecasting.
  8. Work in close alignment with the marketing team to introduce products into the market on time and within budget. Develop collateral material for products and company materials.
  9. Act as subject matter expert for product level promotions by providing technical product content and competitive analysis; support trade-show activities.
  10. Detailed review of incoming new products to ascertain their market viability, overall quality, and strategic potential to add to the NICOR product line.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, marketing, or business from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering, marketing, product management experience with technical products in the lighting industry, lighting controls or power management industries.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of residential and commercial LED lighting, technical specifications, applications, and implementation
  • Experience in wireless technology, controls, or smart technologies a strong plus
  • Solid understanding of LED technology, dimming standards and characteristics
  • Basic understanding of UL, Energy Star, Title 24, DLC and other compliance related legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work interactively with engineering and marketing teams
  • Financial acumen as it relates to pricing and budget development.
  • Experience with strategic planning, product development and product lifecycle management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer service focus and provides satisfactory resolution to customer questions.
  • Experience working with international cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills.

  • May require standing or walking for more than 4 hours per day.
  • Shop work building, modifying, and testing SSL prototypes using hand tools.
  • Laboratory work using electrical and mechanical test equipment.
  • Able to lift 40lbs.
  • Up to 20% Travel Required to various service/component suppliers’ meetings or industry conferences and trade shows.

Automation Programmer – Engineering Technician

SUMMARY:

NICOR is a leading manufacturer of lighting solutions for commercial, industrial, and residential markets. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for someone with energy, motivation and the skills to provide engineering support and technical direction for our engineering and new product development team. You will define, design, bringing to market, and supporting NICOR’s solid-state lighting (SSL) automation product lines. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead NICOR SSL Customer focused automation program development and standardization initiatives as they relate to lighting design and controls. Working closely with Engineering, Marketing, and Sales Teams.
  2. Ensure product design integrity by reviewing designs, recommending actions, providing solutions to the most technical challenges, and providing overall electrical technical leadership.
  3. Specific responsibility for creating system architecture, combining lighting, controls, and services.
  4. Work with Management, Marketing, and Sales Teams to define new product requirements and map the requirements into technical performance specifications.
  5. Validate designs through design reviews, product testing, certification and documented detailed analysis for product launch.
  6. Define, organize, and maintain NICOR Server file structure of SSL specifications, CAD files, design documents and revisions, bills of materials (BOMs), etc.
  7. Evaluate new technologies that will improve product performance and reduce development time and costs.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering – Preferred but not required or Equivalent Specialized Experience

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Minimum 2+ Years’ Experience within Engineering Field
  • Experience with Phoenix Contact PLC or similar PLC controllers programing to ILC 61131-3 and other system controls
  • Experience with BLE MESH, Wi-Fi, Ethernet IP based system architecture
  • Strong lighting controls experience with DALI protocols and BACnet a plus
  • Understanding/knowledge of lighting basics, solid state lighting, LED arrays and basic PCB design and troubleshooting a plus
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with excellent follow-up and attention to detail

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Theory-of-operation knowledge and understanding of; LED’s, electrical power supply and drive circuitry, heat sink thermodynamics, optics, and general knowledge of Solid-State Lighting components.
  • Experience with IoT solutions and controls a plus
  • Knowledge of UL and IEC standards
  • Experience specifying and troubleshooting plug-n-play low-voltage and line-voltage wiring systems a plus
  • General hands-on proficiency with computers, electronic test instruments, lab and shop tools related to automation system programming, commissioning, and testing.
  • Proven project management skills and experience as related to developing and delivering new lighting automation products to market on time and within budget.
  • Ability to manage and interface with a wide variety of component suppliers, technology vendors, contract manufacturers, design service providers, etc.

Electrical Engineer

SUMMARY:

The Engineering Staff will provide engineering support and technical direction for defining, designing, bringing to market, and supporting NICOR’s solid-state lighting product lines.  The Electrical Engineer will deal with control systems focusing on the design, development, and testing of our products.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure product design integrity by reviewing designs, recommending actions, providing solutions to the most technical challenges, and providing overall electrical technical leadership.
  2. Specific responsibility for creating system architecture, combining lighting, controls, and services.
  3. Work with Management teams, Marketing, and Sales to define new product requirements, and map the requirements into technical performance specifications.
  4. Work closely with Manufacturing Operations to bring new SSL product designs through prototyping, testing, certification, and product launch.
  5. Differentiate and manage SSL product design projects including technology provider selection; project goals; schedules; budget; and overall project management functionalities.
  6. Define, organize, and maintain NICOR Server file structure of SSL specifications, CAD files, design documents and revisions, bills of materials (BOMs), etc.
  7. Evaluate and select the electrical, mechanical, thermal, optical, and semiconductor components determined to be optimal for design and manufacture of NICOR SSL products.
  8. Continuously review and evaluate new SSL technologies, competitor products, and NICOR SSL products (including field failures and customer returns) to keep NICOR at the forefront of SSL competition.
  9. Help optimize supply chain, manufacturing cost reduction, quality control, and resolution of any product issues.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Engineering software - Electrical: Solid works PCB, Eagle PCB, PC Worx, JetBrains; InDesign; Illustrator; Photometric toolbox.
  • Strong lighting controls experience, DALI protocols a plus.
  • Understanding/knowledge of lighting basics, solid state lighting, LED arrays and PCB design
  • Strong math and reading (English) skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with excellent follow-up.
  • Five years related industry experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
