The Engineering Manager will provide leadership, management and vision for the Engineering Team; providing engineering support and technical direction for defining, designing, bringing to market various lighting and control systems. Director of Engineering
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The engineering manager performs a variety of engineering work and oversight in designing, planning, overseeing communication with manufacturing, testing, evaluation of components and lighting fixtures and related control systems. This position will work closely with other disciplines in the development process. Provide timely completion of projects to include the planning and scheduling, cost analysis, evaluation of alternatives, design review, management review, tooling release component sourcing and final production release. Providing leadership for mechanical and electrical engineers.
Ensure product design integrity by reviewing designs, recommending actions, providing solutions to the most technical challenges and providing overall electrical technical leadership.
Mentor less experienced engineers, both mechanical and electrical.
Work closely with Manufacturing Operations to bring new SSL product designs through prototyping, testing, certification, and product launch.
Define, organize, and maintain NICOR technical database libraries of SSL specifications, CAD databases, design documents and revisions, bills of materials (BOS), etc.
Evaluate and select the electrical, mechanical, thermal, optical, and semiconductor components determined to be optimal for design and manufacture of NICOR SSL products.
To ensure the business can achieve their goals, continuously review and evaluate new SSL technologies, competitor products, and NICOR SSL products (including field failures and customer returns) to keep NICOR at the forefront of SSL competition.
Help optimize supply chain, manufacturing cost reduction, quality control, and resolution of any product issues.
Responsible for on-time, on-budget, and on spec delivery of new product development to fuel the rapid growth of our company plan.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree - Electrical Engineer – EE from an accredited institution.
Engineering software - Electrical: Solid works PCB, Solidworks, Eagle PCB, PC Worx, JetBrains; Photometric toolbox.
Strong Controls experience.
Understanding of and/or experience with compliance regulations; UL/ETL, Energy Star, CEC, FCC, NEMA.
Understanding/knowledge of lighting basics, LED.
Proven track record including 4-6 years in a leadership role.
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Good organizational and time management skills, with excellent follow-up.
Engineering, manufacturing or marketing of short life cycle technical products.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Theory-of-operation knowledge and understanding of: LED’s, electrical power supply and drive circuitry, basic thermodynamics, and general knowledge of Solid-State Lighting components.
Act as liaison with existing or potential international vendors regarding components and complete lighting fixtures.
Coordinate the development of final product documentation, for release to manufacturing to include first article inspection reports, drawings, specifications, electrical testing, cost estimates and staged releases.
Coordinate with Engineering Director to ensure adequate resources staffed for each project.
General hands-on proficiency with computers, electronic test instruments, lab and shop tools related to prototype building and testing.
Strong project management skills
Critical thinking and problem resolution skills a must.
Responsive sense of urgency to take approved final product to market in an efficient manner.
Experience working with international cross-functional teams.
Strong written and oral presentation skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Ability to prioritize business needs.
Team player, strong collaboration skills.
10 years of engineering and new product development experience.
Experience with RF technologies including Bluetooth SIG, IEEE, Zigbee alliance, IoT and other wireless lighting controls.
Experience with low voltage LED wiring systems and dedicated lighting fixtures.
In a typical interior/warehouse/office environment: work performed in an Office setting is largely a sedentary role, must be able to sit for long durations of time; warehouse environment with exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust and fumes.
May require standing or walking for more than 4 hours per day.
Shop work building, modifying, and testing SSL prototypes using hand tools.
Laboratory work using electrical and mechanical test equipment.
Able to lift 40lbs.
Limited travel to various service/component suppliers’ meetings or industry conferences and trade shows.
