Electrical Engineer (Controls Engineer)

FLSA: Exempt

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.

SUMMARY:

The Electrical Engineer will focus on the development of a new control systems targeting the design, development, and testing of the new product. Responsibilities will also include the core product line but to a lesser degree.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure product design integrity by reviewing designs, recommending actions, providing solutions to technical challenges, and providing overall electrical technical leadership.
  2. Specifically responsible for creating system architecture, combining lighting, controls, and services.
  3. Work with Management teams, Marketing, and Sales to define new product requirements, and map the requirements into technical performance specifications.
  4. Work closely with Manufacturing Operations to bring new SSL product designs through prototyping, testing, certification, and product launch.
  5. Differentiate and manage SSL product design projects including technology provider selection, project goals, schedules, budget, and overall project management
  6. Define, organize, and maintain NICOR Server file structure of SSL specifications, CAD files, design documents and revisions, bills of materials (BOMs), etc.
  7. Evaluate and select the electrical, mechanical, thermal, optical, and semiconductor components determined to be optimal for design and manufacture of NICOR SSL products.
  8. Continuously review and evaluate new SSL technologies, competitor products, and NICOR SSL products (including field failures and customer returns) to keep NICOR at the forefront of SSL competition.
  9. Help optimize supply chain, manufacturing cost reduction, quality control, and resolution of any product issues.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Engineering software: Solid works PCB, Eagle PCB, PC Worx, JetBrains; InDesign; Illustrator; Photometric toolbox.
  • Strong lighting controls experience
  • Understanding/knowledge of lighting basics, solid state lighting, LED arrays and PCB design
  • Strong math skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with excellent follow-up.
  • Five years related industry experience, lighting, or controls experience a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Programming experience with structured text, C, C++, Java script.
  • Experience with PLC programing to IEC 61131-3 standard and other system controls standards.
  • Theory-of-operation knowledge and understanding of LED’s, electrical power supply and drive circuitry, heat sink thermodynamics, optics, and general knowledge of Solid-State Lighting components.
  • Experience with DALI controls is a requirement. Additional experience with BLE MESH, Wi-Fi based system architecture, and wireless controls systems and low voltage system development a strong plus.
  • Experience with IoT solutions a plus
  • Experience specifying plug-n-play low-voltage and line-voltage wiring systems a plus
  • General hands-on proficiency with computers, electronic test instruments, lab and shop tools related to prototype building and testing.
  • Proven project management skills and experience as related to bringing new products to market on time and within budget.
  • Ability to interface with and manage a wide variety of component suppliers, technology vendors, contract manufacturers, design service providers, etc.
  • Responsive sense of urgency to take approved final product to market in an efficient manner.
  • Experience working with international cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to prioritize business needs.
  • Team player, strong collaboration skills
  • Attention to detail. An ability to prioritize, work within deadlines, handle multiple projects, and maintain objectives.
  • Must work well with or without supervision, motivated and a team player.
  • Strong customer service focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • In a typical interior/warehouse/office environment: work performed in an office setting is largely a sedentary role, must be able to sit for long durations of time; warehouse environment with exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust and fumes.
  • May require standing or walking for more than 4 hours per day.
  • Shop work building, modifying, and testing SSL prototypes using hand tools.
  • Laboratory work using electrical and mechanical test equipment.
  • Able to lift 40lbs.
  • Limited travel to various service/component suppliers’ meetings or industry conferences and trade shows.

Outside Sales Manager

SUMMARY:

An integral part of our USA Account team, Outside Sales Manager will assume a leadership role in business development of new and current customers, project sales, product specification, and implementation of successful product launches while achieving sales and profitability goals.

REPORTS TO:

Vice President of Sales

GEOGRAPHY COVERED:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Through professional selling efforts, increase sales of NICOR products throughout the assigned territory, meeting and exceeding sales and profitability targets
  2. Drive sales through assigned lighting agents, pushing them to sell, provide excellent customer service, and manage NICORs vast customer base.
  3. Provide excellent customer service, on-site troubleshooting, participate in customer and industry events
  4. Coordinate key customer (distributor and contractor) targets, solicitations, and events with NICOR Agent Sales Representative.
  5. In addition to selling through contractors and distribution, cultivate project sales through ESCOs, National Accounts, builders, developers, etc.
  6. With the assistance of the Marketing team, promote and increase brand awareness through sales and marketing activities within the assigned territory
  7. With samples, literature, and other provided sales tools, drive stock and project sales throughout the territory.
  8. Leverage, develop and maintain relationships with key customers throughout the territory to support increased NICOR sales and profits.
  9. 75% of time will be spent traveling within territory to effectively manage and train sales agents and monitor territory activities, trends, issues and opportunities for growth and increased market penetration. Some overnight travel is required. Also required to travel to NICOR Headquarters (Albuquerque, NM) to participate in strategic planning meetings
  10. Prepare and present detailed sales reports and forecasts to leadership team and key stakeholders.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • College degree or equivalent work experience
  • Manufacturer representative management experience required
  • Minimum (2) years experience in the electrical and/or lighting Industry
  • Strong references from Distributors and Manufacturer Representatives a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Must work well with or without supervision, motivated and be a team player. Will work with agents, distributors and other NICOR departments/personnel.
  • Lighting knowledge and understanding of the industry ideal.
  • Proven sales experience and ability to manage budgets and financial targets.
  • Experience and success working with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize business needs and work within strict timelines.
  • Strong customer service focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in an Office setting.  Largely a sedentary role, must be able to sit for long durations of time.
  • Able to lift 25-50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel 75% of the time (with some overnights)
